Second in my Barnyard Series - Rooster

This rooster was painted in much the same way as the little piggy.  I used one of Bob's old paintings, covered it with strips of newspaper and book pages.  Then I drew the rooster, painted around it and, lastly, painted the rooster.  He is 14 x 20."

This Little Piggy Stayed Home

Version 2, cropped.
Here she is, all finished.  See below for description of how I painted her.  Version 1 uncropped.

This is a failed watercolor.  I glued down various strips and pieces of paper, some pages from an old paperback,
some strips from sheetmusic, and some collage papers.  Then I sketched Ms Piggy onto it and painted around her with
fluid acrylic paint.  The final step was to paint Ms Piggy, leaving some of the collage pieces show through and covering some of them up.

Progression of Moon Rocks

This piece was inspired by lava rocks we saw in Hawaii.  They give great abstract designs.  I coated the paper with black gesso tinted with Thalo blue fluid acrylic.  When dry, I added diluted white gesso, covering it with various types of plastic, and wax paper.  I worked one element at a time. Some areas, I simply spritzed some alcohol onto the semi dry paint and watched what happened.  When dry, I went over with thinned fluid acrylics in gold, thalo blue, red iron oxide, and some ultramarine blue.

Moon Rocks Diptych
Then I set it on the mantle a while and decided it needed some symbols or lines.  I cut out my designs using sticky back foam, like the kids use for art projects.

After sitting long enough to find the orange foam too garish, I decided to follow the patterns and use copper paint, and paint skins to unite the rocks.  I cut it into two pieces and am going to present it as a diptych.
Right now, I feel like moon rocks fits for a title.
This is the reference photo I used  for my inspiration.  Lava from the Big Island of Hawaii

Well it has simmered for over a week, with little tweeks here and there.  The #50 has been in and out, and I think this is where I sign it and hang it.  All it needs is a title.

Untitled just yet, 36" wide by 48" tall, the biggest painting I have done to date.
