    Actually, I like the full version best! You lose all those lovely value contrasts in the bank on the left when you crop.
    Trees: Actually not bad at all. I'd make the "birch" tree's bark a little less regular and the bark in the left tree and limb a little less regular, too. It will had some energy to have the variations. Also, the shadow on the birch tree could have a little value variation.

      YES! Dealing with the trees allows them to balance the big texture area and allows one to focus on the rich color and texture of the middle ground! It now has quiet areas and rich/energy areas.
